Why do we recommend stopping here?

Beautifully located with the canal flowing through the centre of the town and crossing the Garonne. Moissac is on the pilgrims route of St Jacques to Compostelle.

Guided visit of town, check with tourist office.

Is this place famous for anything?

Famous for it's cloistered Benedictine abbey constructed between 628 qnd 648. Some of the finest Romanesque architecture in the region.

Insider Information

Walk along the banks of the river and find out how the river flooded the town on numerous occasions but spared the Abbey.

You can go by boat on to the Tarn for a short while. Navigate with extreme care, following all markings precisely. Refer to special map. Alternatively just enjoy the view from the Canal as it crosses the Tarn River.
