The River Thames

Self-drive Boat Hire on the Thames

Boating on the Thames: the most charming way to explore South-East England.

When you hire a cruiser on the Thames, you discover the famous river differently at your own pace. As you gaze at Windsor Bridge and Castle or Hampton Court Palace from your hire cruiser, you feel like you have been transported back in time. Your self-drive boat holiday takes you to large towns with shops, pubs and museums, where sightseeing and family activities are on the afternoon agenda. You’ll also stop in small villages where the pace is slow and the living is easy!
Great for...
  • A boating break for every interest
  • Royal castles & palaces
  • Historical cities
  • Typical english countryside & villages
  • Waterside pubs
  • Walking & bird-watching

Reviews for The River Thames cruises

Memorable is the word. It rained every day. That being said, even if the weather was fine, the experience would have been sub-par. It is just not a venue worth travelling across an ocean and spending a week on a boat. There were few areas of interest on the river, few restaurants of note and few experiences worth the bother. However, I will say that the lock masters were terrific-helpful, patient and just plain friendly.
Would not recommend this trip. We did the Midi a few years ago a trip we have recommended many times.

Lovely postcard moment viewing Windsor Castle and the royal swans....great fishing haul with fresh perch for dinner one night....charming pubs...friendly people.....
All the towns along the way were lovely. Would recommend mooring in Windsor one night and strolling both Windor castle and the Eton college grounds.

Marlow was nice' enjoyed the locks.
The bounty inn was a nice pub and allowed mooring if you were a customer.
