The Golden Midi Cruise

Canal du Midi, France

Reviews for the The Golden Midi Cruise

We had good experiences with staff (the reception staff at Port Cassafieres and Castelnaudary were delightfully welcoming and helpful and spoke excellent English which helps), but also average ones (a few dismissive front staffers at other bases). Some of the technical staff (like the people who showed us around the boat), although friendly, seemed under-supported and overwhelmed. It's hard to do a review of our two weeks and not wax lyrical about the beauty and friendly welcome of canal life. I'd hate for anyone to think we did not enjoy our trip from Port Cassafieres to Castelnaudary onboard Le Boats Tamaris (4 berth), in fact we loved it. But I feel that was despite Le Boat rather than because of it, and to make the review more useful for potential holidayers I'm going to risk sounding like a nitpicker.

4 on board, family, one experienced sailor. Great way to see the country side and experience the culture.
La Someil and Carcasonne were the best, but lots of other great scenery and experiences

Probably most impressed by the wine tank at the co-op that had the hose with what looked like a gas nozzle to dispense wine for 1.30 euro per liter.
Escargot pizza delivery to the boat in Bram

Spent 2 weeks on board, stopping at all villages and towns along the way for up to 2 days. The trip was relaxing, peaceful, very interesting and rewarding. Only two people on board can be difficult when it came to boat handling at the locks, but soon developed a workable system. Late afternoons among the plane trees lining the banks was magical
Recommend at least a day to explore Capestang, 2 days for Carcassonne, 1 for la Redorte and 2 for Castelnadaury. All very worthwhile visiting.

Really enjoyed the cruise especially seeing the countryside, drinking the local wines and eating the local specialties.
Bouzigues and Aigues Mortes were highlights.
