Reviews for the The Highland Fling Short Break
We travelled with another couple from Australia. We were in Scotland for our sons wedding. We do a lot of boating in Australia and decided it would be great to cruise the Caledonian canal for a week. We had a wonderful time and would love to do this again sometime.
We saw most points of interest along the way. dinner at Inverarry castle was a real treat. it was quite thrilling to catch a brown trout. it was great fun going thru the locks. Port Agugustus was a great place to watch the passing parade.
The people were wonderful all the lock keepers and the bridge keepers , and especially Andy, Tom and Sheila from West Highland sailing, they were all just great.
It was all stunning , Eastwards towards Fort Augustus, more pubs and restaurants , Westward fantastic scenery, we did both.
We spent five days on the Caledonian canal. It was a very enjoyable experience. Loch Ness is breathtaking. Fort Augustus was memorable. Loch Oich is shallow but tranquil.
I would recommend others to spend at least 7 days on the Caledonian canal. 5 days is simply not enough time to enjoy the scenic view in a leisurely pace.
It was a very pleasant weekend with good weather until the day we we re coming off the cruiser. The boat was well equiped and very comfortable for four. There were three adults and one child and they all enjoyed it.
We had a very good first night at Garelochy. On the Sunday we cruised from Gairlochy to Loch Oich stopping at the Well of the Seven Heads, and the great glen water park. From there we proceeded up the Canal to Fort Augustus
