Teach the kids about history on a boating holiday in Belgium

Wednesday 01 July 2009

Families heading to Belgium on a boating holiday will be able to incorporate some cultural learning into their trip as well as fun days out.

According to a new survey by HSBC Wealth Management, more than 90 per cent of parents want their children to learn something on a trip overseas.

Furthermore, some 21 per cent said they think learning about different cultures while abroad is important for their children's education.

Brendan Cook, a spokesman for HSBC Wealth Management said: "Parents in the UK value travel and learning from other cultures as one of their highest priorities."

A boating holiday in Belgium could be the perfect cultural break, as families can head to the city of Ypres to visit the war memorials and watch the Last Post ceremony.

They could also stop off in Gent - Belgium's ancient capital - to visit its large selection of museums.

Boating holidays in Belgium are available from the cruise base at Nieuwpoort.
