UK holidaymakers planning trips with dogs

Tuesday 30 June 2009

Around 500,000 people are planning to take their dogs on holiday with them this year, according to figures cited by Smallholder magazine.

It says that 12 million UK adults intend to holiday on home soil this year and a large number will be accompanies by their canine companions.

Of those who do intend to take a break with their pets, some 17 per cent claim they plan to do so because they enjoy spending time with their animals.

The magazine offers some advice for those travelling with dogs, as issued by Pfizer Animal Health.

It states that holidaymakers should ensure there is plenty of fresh air in their cars when travelling on the road and seek advice from a vet on motion sickness.

However, families who opt for boating holidays with dogs will not have to worry about keeping their dog in the car for too long.

A cruise in the Norfolk Broads could be the perfect solution for those taking their dogs with them as the area is great for walking and there is plenty of open space for animals to exercise.

Boating holidays in the Norfolk Broads are available from the cruise base at Wroxham.

Medieval churches and restored windmills are just some of the sights that holidaymakers will see during their break.
