Go walking in Windsor on a Thames boating holiday

Wednesday 17 June 2009

Active families can enjoy a royal walk through Windsor during a boating holiday on the River Thames this summer.

In its Go Walk section, the Guardian recommends taking a 7.5-mile stroll along the Long Walk in the Great Park to the King George III statue and back again, through the town to the river bank and across the water to Eton.

The newspaper points out that most of the walk is in the shadow of Windsor Castle, with some great views of the royal fortress from Snow Hill.

Its route also takes in the River Thames with its graceful swans and the infamous Eton College with its many school buildings and chapel.

The walk could be great for families enjoying boating holidays with dogs, as their canine companions are allowed into the Great Park.

Holiday makers could extend their day out in Windsor with a tour around the castle itself, taking in the state apartments and other important rooms.

Boating holidays on the River Thames are available from the cruise bases at Benson and Chertsey.
