Writing for the Attleboro Sun Chronicle, Linda Fasteson said the region is renowned for its gastronomic delights and "sights that evoke images of idyllic French countryside living".
And she said there is no better way to enjoy these than to cruise along Burgundy's rivers and canals at a leisurely pace
"Each day on board and its stops along the way are a unique sampling of the local culture through its regional wines and cuisine, outings and casual observations," she stated.
Ms Fasteson recommended visiting medieval villages and historic towns, touring vineyards and sampling their produce and shopping at colourful local markets.
She described the landscape of Burgundy as akin to an impressionist painting and said it is difficult to define the "joie du vivre" that exists in the region.
Boating holidays in Burgundy are available from the cruise bases at Branges, Gray, Fontenoy le Chateau and St Jean de Losne.
Families travelling to the area in October could stop off in Cognac to enjoy some lively entertainment at the annual Les Eclats Choregraphiques Dance Festival.
