Add a touch of magic to a Loire boating holiday

Saturday 09 May 2009

Families enjoying a boating holiday in the Loire region of France this August could add a touch of magic to their break with a visit to Sancerre.

Taking place on the first Sunday in August, the Sorcerers' Fair sees people from all over France come together in the village of Bue-en-Sancerre to celebrate local legends.

According to What's on When, there is plenty of dancing and singing as revellers revive ancient traditions and tell tales of wizards and sorcerers.

The entertainment is staged outdoors in the afternoon and into the evening following a mass in the local church.

There is also an open-air dinner where visitors can sample traditional dishes.

And of course the Loire region is famous for its wines, so the evening would not be complete without a glass of two of the local produce.

Boating holidays in the Loire Valley are available from the cruise bases at Decize, Chatillon-sur-Loire and Migennes.

Other highlights of a break in the region may include a visit to Plagny to visit the Formula 1 museum at Magny Cours.
