From July 5th to 14th, the annual Les Zaccros d'ma rue festival will be taking place, offering free entertainment for locals and tourists.
Numerous theatre and dance performances, music concerts and puppet shows will be staged at various locations across Nevers.
The programme will kick off on the first evening with a colourful parade and will be followed by circus shows, art exhibitions and fireworks.
Holidaymakers can visit Nevers to soak up the carnival atmosphere as they cruise along the waterways of the Loire Valley.
A former Roman town, Nevers is now renowned for its fine porcelain, which could make a perfect holiday souvenir.
Other highlights of a break in the region may include a stop near the hilltop village of Sancerre and its vineyards, or a trip to the Formula 1 museum at Magny Cours.
Boating holidays in the Loire Valley are available from the cruise base at Decize, Chatillon-sur-Loire and Migennes.
