Cognac is inextricably linked to the drink that the town it gives its name. Even, the roofs and facades of the town are covered in a black fungus resulting from the evaporation of alcohol into the air - poetically called, ‘the angels taking their share.
Near the marina you’ll find several big Cognac trading houses that offer visits and tastings. We recommend Baron Otard distillery, housed inside the Chateau de Cognac, where François I was born.
Elsewhere, discover Cognac’s 12th century church with its magnificent Romanesque façade, punctuated with a flamboyant rose stained glass window, or the town’s old salt merchant houses.
For more information during your cruise visit Cognac’s excellent tourist information office, which will give you a booklet containing a programme of six attractions to visit – each with its own unique appeal.
