Think 'nautical' and I can almost guarantee that blue and white stripes will spring to mind. For this nautical outfit I definitely wanted to incorporate stripes, but I also wanted to add another dimension - hence the spots on my hat and glasses. Having spent much of my spare time motor boating over the last seven years, I've learned that an outfit has to not only look good, but be practical.
Wearing shoes with rubber soles is a must, and if I do go for slip-on flats, as in this outfit, I make sure that they are a snug fit. Clothes that are comfortable are a must; boating is absolutely not the time to put fashion over comfort! It's also a good idea not to take the weather for granted, a sunny day can change to overcast and vice versa. So I always layer up and remove or add a layer as the weather dictates.
Although it may not be obvious, in this outfit I'm actually wearing a strappy top and a lightweight Tee under my blue blouse. And I can't over emphasise the importance of proper sun protection; you can't always feel how hot the sun is when you're on the water with the breeze in your face. Think sun hats, visors, sunglasses and - the invisible and most important part of my outfit - sunscreen!
